Conclusions
Finding the tool
- ✅ Every Repl.it page I visited wanted me to try Ghostwriter
- 🟨 In the home page, “You can now chat with a coding AI” wasn’t very evocative. I’d embed the use-cases from the marketing site
- Telling me exactly what it can do is important because I can’t try before I buy and I’m unlikely to try something “to see what it is”.
Marketing site
- ✅ The marketing site has compelling use-cases
- 🟨 I found “find errors” much more compelling than “Work in unfamiliar territory”, so I would put that one first. Two reason:
- It feels more useful
- I already easily ask things to ChatGPT and pay for that
- 🛑 I was overall confused by the difference between Ghostwriter and Ghostwriter Chat. I still don’t know where one starts and the other one begins. This made it very hard for me to know if I was paying for the right thing.
- 🛑The Ghostwrite Chat notice sent me to a paywalled article. This is a terrible way for me to learn what the product is
Payment flow
- 🛑The payment flow was overall terrible
- I spent most of my time on a modal that repeated what the page already had.
- The modal interrupted the what I was doing
- The modal talked about “Upgrading to Pro” which is not what I was there to do.
- It tried to sell me on Bounties too, which I have no idea what they are and I found distracting.
- I tried to use 1Password to pay and that cleared the modal. (It later worked well on the payment form that was embedded in the page)
- The buy buttons constantly confused me with the distinction between a one-time purchase of cycles and the signing up for a subscription.
